Projects and Happenings

The Fuquay-Varina Woman’s Club has
volunteer projects on tap all year long.

The GFWC Jennie Award: The only national honor bestowed by the General Federation of Woman’s Clubs that recognizes individual members for personal excellence. Club members are nominated by their clubs to compete at state, regional, and national levels for the Federation’s highest honor. Our Club Member, Shirley Simmons was chosen as the STATE WINNER for 2024!

Each year at the GFWC-NC State Convention, GFWC-NC awards three individual members in North Carolina for their excellence. In 2024, two of those were awarded to FVWC Members. Congratulations Julia Yeargan (Clubwoman with Heart Award) and Anne Moell (Woman of the Year Award)!

At the District VI meeting in February 2025, two of FVWC members were awarded for their outstanding contributions in 2024 . Congratulations to Faith Junghahn for Outstanding Citizenship and Patriotism Award and to Susan Stanley for Clubwoman “with “Heart”.

The GFWC National Day of Service of 2023 and 2024: FVWC members donated and took donations, ultimately donating 2000 pounds of canned and dry goods to the Fuquay Emergency Food Pantry.

Each month FVWC highlights a Strong Woman of Fuquay-Varina both in an article published in our newsletter and at meetings. Each woman has shown they are exemplary through their service, overcoming obstacles, leadership skills, or any number of ways. The articles are then cataloged in the Fuquay-Varina Museums historical record.

WAKE UP AND READ: The Education and Libraries members collected over 3000 books in 2025 for WAKE Up and Read… a Wake County Literacy Program. Members also helped children choose their books to start their home libraries and their journey to a love of reading!

BINGO AT THE HOMES FOR THE ELDERLY AND PINE ACRES COMMUNITY CENTER: Each month our Health and Wellness members provide fellowship and fun times as well as yummy and essential living prizes to elderly communities. They also partner with the Arts and Culture Committee to do art classes at Pine Acres Community Center. and Calyxx Assisted Living. It is loads of fun!

MEETINGS. Meetings are held the second Monday of the month September – May. We begin gathering at 6:15 p.m. to socialize and have refreshments followed by our meeting promptly beginning at 6:45 in our historic Clubhouse with the red door at 602 N. Ennis Street.

FIRE AND POLICE GOODIE BAGS: On 9/11 Remembrance Day, Our Civic Engagement Community Service Project donates goodie bags to Fuquay-Varina Fire and Police Departments as a thank you for their service to our community.

GFWC-NC Convention: Nine of our members went to Raleigh to take part in the GFWC-NC Convention in 2025. It was a great time getting to know members from other clubs and getting ideas on how to better serve our community.

WOMAN OF THE YEAR AWARD: Each year at our Spring Banquet we present a Woman of the Year Award to a club member whose service to the Fuquay-Varina Woman’s Club and to our community is exceptional. This year Susan Stanley won the distinction! Congratulations!

CONNECT WALK: Members walk and/or have lunch together each month as a way to connect. We take field trips to see murals, parks, exhibits, trials, gardens, shops, etc.

Wreaths Across America Bow Making Project: Headed by the Civic Engagement CSP, club members made over 600 bows for Wreaths Across America for the graves of veterans right here in Fuquay-Varina. You can see their handy work in December at local cemeteries.

Women FORE Women Tournament: Our annual all-women’s golf fundraiser tournament to raise funds for Fuquay-Varina Woman’s Club projects and causes, especially purple awareness causes such as Animal Advocacy, Cancer Research, Domestic Violence, Dementia , and the Women’s Suffrage Movement.

This tournament was the first and is still the only all- women fundraiser ever held at Bentwinds Country Club, in Fuquay-Varina so FVWC made HERstory. It’s been great fun raising funds for projects that make it fun to serve where there’s a need in our community and beyond!

A lovely article about what we do in the 5 West Magazine May 2025. This has been made into a beautiful plaque for our Clubhouse thanks to John and Patty Byrne.

Donations for BACKPACK BUDDIES – a project shared with the American Legion and a collaboration with Walmart in FV that supplies food items four elementary schools to distribute to children recognized by their school counselors as children in need. A wonderful project that ensures kids that may be experiencing food scarcity at home have access to nutritious food during the traditional school year.

THE FUQUAY-VARINA WOMAN’S CLUB ART SHOW – The members of the Arts Community Service Project organize an art show in January each year and invite 25 local schools to participate. The student art is amazing each and every year. The upper grades are judged, and winners move on to the District Art Show and possibly the State Art Show. Many thanks to Windsor Point for the use of their auditorium so that we can showcase all of the wonderful budding artists in Fuquay-Varina. Also, we appreciate Mayor Massengill for providing the Town of FV Proclamation of Art Week each year and welcoming guests at the opening of our Art Show.

LUNCH CONNECT with members.
