The Friends of the Museums are greatly indebted to volunteer citizens and organizations who make it possible for the Friends to actually operate the museums, care for the artifacts, and preserve the history of Fuquay-Varina.
The Fuquay-Varina Woman’s Club, itself the oldest volunteer organization in town, partnered with the Museums to “Welcome” visitors to our Ashworth Park site on May 28 and May 29th. Led by President Patty Byrne, the group set up tables where guests received cookies and bottles of water. They were exposed to items which represent our town but the major emphasis was “we are happy to have you.”
Among these hostesses were: Patty Byrne, Martha Smallwood, Fran Price, Donna MacDonald, Jeanette Castro and Becky Patton. Another group of members baked the cookies and wrapped them for visitors.
For any donation, persons could enter the raffle for a painting by Martha Smallwood, member of the Woman’s Club. Because the weather was so uncooperative, the club decided to continue offering chances to win the work which will serve as a reminder of the WRAL Freedom Balloon Festival. The drawing will not be held until the fall so interested persons can still give a donation for a chance to win.
